Newcastle 85+

The Newcastle 85+ Study is a comprehensive longitudinal research project focused on understanding health and ageing in individuals aged 85 and older. As the largest population-based study of its kind, it aims to explore the wide range of health conditions experienced by the oldest old, identify factors that contribute to maintaining health and independence, and enhance the understanding of the biological processes involved in human ageing. The study involves detailed assessments of participants' physical and cognitive health, lifestyle, and social factors, and it collects biological samples for further analysis. Key findings from the study have provided valuable insights into the health trajectories of the oldest old, highlighting the diversity in health outcomes and the importance of various lifestyle and genetic factors in promoting healthy ageing. The Newcastle 85+ Study is significant for its contributions to gerontology and public health, offering evidence to inform policies and interventions aimed at improving the quality of life for the ageing population.
