Cognitive Function and Ageing Study II (CFAS II)

The Cognitive Function and Ageing Study II (CFAS II) is a continuation of the original MRC Cognitive Function and Ageing Study (CFAS), designed to explore the impact of changes in morbidity and frailty on health, service use, and healthcare expenditure. Conducted between 2008 and 2011, CFAS II focuses on individuals aged 65-84, providing crucial baseline data for a cohort expected to experience significant frailty in the 2020s. This period coincides with a projected peak in the population aged 85 and over, and a time when advancements in dementia treatments may become influential. The study aims to understand how increased life expectancy, shifts in chronic disease prevalence, and potential therapeutic developments affect older adults' health and care needs. CFAS II is significant for its role in informing future healthcare planning and policy, particularly concerning dementia and age-related conditions.
