This survey was undertaken to assess the extent of landscape change in the upland areas of England and Wales and to discover the causes of such change. Variables Landscapes: land cover, man-made artefacts, field boundaries; farmers' behaviour and attitudes; economic viability of farm holdings; land management; community life; awareness of public policies; demographic structure; land tenure; common rights; stocking ratios; attitudes to conservation.
