Super Profile Group National Classification of 1981 Census Enumeration Districts

The aim of these data are to provide a second generation 1981 Census Enumeration District (ED) classification of Great Britain. Although developed with a view to target marketing and related activities in the private sector, the classifications also provide a powerful means of distinguishing national variations in socio-economic conditions for public sector applications. Fifty-five census-derived variables were used in developing the original Super Profile classification. A further ten were employed in deriving Super Profile Group aggregations of Super Profiles. For a description of the classification methodology employed in deriving the original 150 Super Profile clusters, see Charlton, M., Openshaw, S., and Wymer, C., 'Some new classifications of census enumeration districts in Britain: a poor man's ACORN', Journal of Economic and Social Measurement, 13, 1985, pp. 69-96 The data in this study duplicate those held in SN:2346.
