To examine attainments in all the secondary schools in one local education authority area and to account for differences in attainment with reference to school type and other `internal' school variables, using methods of multivariate analysis. Attitudinal/Behavioural Questions (Independent variables where 049 were criterion variables) Free subject choice, ability grouping (non-streaming), school size, school attendance, proportion staying on beyond minimum leaving age, staff experience, age and qualifications, staff turnover, school atmosphere/head teacher-evaluative, potency, activity, stability, number of subjects in curriculum, number of hours tuition in English/Mathematics/Science, hours of homework, distance from County Education Office.
