Scottish Scholastic Survey, 1953
The aim of this survey was to assess the standard of education in Scottish primary schools through examination of test results and other variables. Variables Data comprise results of written tests (one paper in each of: mechanical arithmetic, arithmetic reasoning, English usage and English comprehension). Copies of these tests are available in the publication cited below (pp. 28 - 56). Background information on the pupils includes: date of birth; sex; whether handicapped; whether left-handed. Information on the school includes region; type of local area; school's transfer arrangements; average size of class; number of full-time primary teachers (excluding visiting teachers); number of pupils on primary roll at 31st March, 1953. In addition, a random sample indicator is given (pupils born on the first of each month from August, 1942 - June, 1943).
