The purpose of the survey is to: 1) measure changes in the size and compilation of the private rented sector and in rents between 1988 and 1990, that is, after the 1988 Housing Act; 2) examine the use being made in 1990 of two new types of tenancy, Assured and Assured Shorthold. Types of letting; characteristics of private renters and their accommodation; rents; income; eligibility and take up of housing benefit; housing history; future expectations; relations with landlord; repairs.
