To investigate the organization of social science research in the United Kingdom Variables The following additional questions were asked: year in which organization established, whether affiliated with any other body,if yes-with what type of body (e.g. university, central government organization, private industrial or commercial organization), details of nature and degree of major affiliation, type of research conducted (themes/topics/disciplines), whether within the field of social science, type of activities carried out (teaching/vocational training/consultancy/documentation services), percentage of staff time devoted to social science research. Social science areas in which research has been conducted in past two years, whether results are normally made available to general public.
