The purpose of the MP's Attitudes to Welfare, 1986-1987 was to explore MP's attitudes to welfare policy paying particular attention to privatisation, selectivity, cuts and party divergences. Main topics include:philosophy of the role of the state in welfare;priorities for policy change;attitude to: means-testing, private medicine, fiscal welfare and child benefit;perceptions of MPs' influence on policy;social characteristics of MPs' constituency; MPs' party position (Front/Back Bench); MPs' influence on policy-making.
