Marriages in Mid-Victorian Kentish London, 1851-1875

The purpose of this study was to ascertain occupational inter-marriage as a guide to status grouping and to discover patterns of inter-generational mobility. Occupation (or imputed occupation) of groom's father, bride's father and of groom (the same detailed occupational classification, 231 categories, is used in each case); district of groom, district of bride, place of marriage, year of marriage and details of register signing (i.e. whether bride and groom sign their names or sign with a cross).
