Description

The Longitudinal Inter-Departmental Business Register (LIDBR) is a longitudinal version, for turnover and employee data only, of the ONS owned Inter-Departmental Business Register (IDBR)/Business Structure Database (BSD). Data on the LIDBR allows assessment of changes in turnover and employee data in individual businesses by providing good quality time series data. Each edition consists of two tables. One contains annual turnover data for all IDBR enterprises from 2006 onwards, with reporting lags removed. The other is similar, but contains employee data. Each table contains around 80 million rows. The data can be matched back to the IDBR/Business Structure Database (BSD) to obtain other data, such as addresses, using the 'entref' variable. The original LIDBR covered 2006 to 2016. The latest covers 2006 to 2018. Data is not overwritten, with older versions of the database kept for reference purposes (as lags in data mean that even when datasets cover the same period, older data may have been updated). At present there are no plans to produce updated versions of the database covering the period from 2018 onwards.
