Labour Parliamentarians and European Integration Survey, 1995-1996
The principal aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that the ideological mapping of Labour politicians is best drawn on the basis of two dimensions: state/market and national sovereignty/interdependence. The research was intended to contribute to knowledge and understanding of the ideological configuration of the Labour Party, particularly over European integration. Topics covered include Labour Parliamentarians' attitudes to the issues of: Economic and Monetary Union; Economic Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM); European Union (EU) fiscal policy; industrial strategy; `subsidiarity'; constitutional reform of EU institutions with particular reference to Qualified Majority Voting (QMV), the sovereignty of the UK Parliament; `enlargement'; jurisprudence. Standard Measures Respondents were asked to `tick' a scale from `strongly agree' `agree', `neither', `disagree', to `strongly disagree', for 59 attitudinal statements.
