Guardian People at Work Survey, 1982
To collect a wide range of classification and attitudinal data about people in relation to their jobs and careers. The sample is drawn from the readership of The Guardian and is therefore heavily biased towards people in managerial, professional, administrative and clerical occupations. The sample is self-selected, but this disadvantage is counter-balanced by its size (11,389 respondents) and the anonymity it confers on respondents. Attitudinal/Behavioural Questions Changing jobs: method, reason for leaving, time spent looking, mobility, recruitment advertising. Attitudes: job satisfaction, immediate superior, the organisation, career, attributes of success. Background Variables Classification: sex, age, marital status, number of children, county, educational qualifications. The job: type of industry, area of work, size of establishment, responsibiltity for staff, salary and benefits, brief career history.
