To examine the way in which national voluntary organizations and their branches are distributed throughout the country. Variables Population according to the 1971 Census, % of population under 14 years/of pensionable age, % of residents born in the New Commonwealth, % intercensal population change (corrected), % in-migrants in last five years, % of one/six plus person households, % with 1.5 or more persons per room, % of council or new town tenants, % of households with rented furnished accomodation, % with all five amenities exclusive, % without a car, % of population not in private households, % of one parent families, % of males/ females (15 plus) economically active, % unemployed males, % males in socio-economic groups 1-4/5-7/8-12. Local authority, pounds per capita retail sales, % turnout in 1971 local government elections, % of local councillors Labour or other left-wing parties % of population aged 15-24 in full-time education, whether a university town.
