Emergent Environmentalism : Children, 1993-1994
The purpose of this survey was to investigate: 1. The acquisition of environmental knowledge in pre-school children aged 4 years. 2. The environmental knowledge possessed by 6-year-old children, so illuminating aspects of the development of environmental knowledge and concern during children's first two years in formal education. 3. The apparent sources of children's knowledge. 4. Common misconceptions and stereotypical ideas about the environment held by young children. The sources and extent of children's emergent knowledge and awareness of the environment, specifically covering: tropical rainforest; deforestation and endangered species; polar areas; polar warming; waste disposal.
