To examine the pattern of daily activities of unemployed men in an area of traditional high unemployment and to investigate activities, background characteristics and psychological health. (ii) Work involvement scale (Warr, Cook and Wall, 1979). Time budget analysis based on J. Gershuny (1980) <i>Social divisions of labour</i> (SPRU, University of Sussex). Questionnaires partially replicated I. Miles (1983) <i>Adaptation to unemployment</i> (SPRU, University of Sussex).
