Dataset contains details of private sector businesses operating and performing research and development activities within the UK. Product group descriptions refer to the type of R&D performed which may not be the same as the SIC (standard industrial classification) that a business is classified to. Analysis by both measures is available within the dataset. Other R&D surveys are conducted to measure activity in government, higher education and the private, non-profit sectors. To note, datasets from 2018 onwards contain BERD survey responses only, this is due to a change in the methodology used to compile BERD estimates in light of information that showed there was under coverage in the BERD estimates particularly in respect of small to medium sized businesses.
